Amfit, Inc, founded by Tony Tadin, is based
in Vancouver, Washington. In true "Silicon Valley" style,
Amfit's first R&D efforts began in Tadin's garage, eventually
moving into more formal headquarters. Once there, the company completed
development of an
automated machine for duplicating the contours of the underside of
a foot. In the early 80's, Amfit opened a number of retail stores
to market
these "custom insoles", but over time found their efforts
were better spent on more aggressive research and further development
of this remarkable new technology.
The company decided that the best solution would be to provide the medical
community with a computerized system offering complete control over
the casting process, as well as new dimensions in control over the adjustments
or corrections that can be made to the contour for prescriptive considerations.
This effort took several more years of diligent progress. The first
commercially available Amfit Medical System appeared in Dallas, Texas
at a trade show in May of 1989.
The system was extremely well received and soon systems were being installed
around the world. Much has happened since then:
| • Amfit was granted the patent on computerized
(software) adjustments to the foot contour |
| • Amfit has installed hundereds of computerized
precision insole fabrication systems worldwide |
| • Amfit for Windows software appeared in 1992
and immediately set the standard in CAD/CAM control of precision
custom insole fabrication |
| • Amfit produced a special version of the system
for retail merchants in 1993 known as the Archcrafters System. Now
a new standard in custom footwear can be found in specialty shoe
stores nationwide |
| • Amfit's desktop milling system was a patented
in 1994 |
| • Amfit patents pressure measurement technology |
| • Amfit Introduces the FootPrinter disposable
casting system |
| • Amfit celebrates 25 years of orthotic excellence |
| • Amfit introduces the Stealth rigid orthosis |
